Following our previous look at an opening for a Design/Build Faculty at the Yestermorrow Design/Build School, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Project Architect in Transit and Infrastructure at Dattner Architects.
The role, based in New York City, calls for an individual to “lead teams on all phases of projects from design to construction.” Among the requirements for the role are experience in infrastructure projects and 7-10 years of relevant professional experience. “Previous experience with large civic projects and urban infrastructure, including construction documentation and administration in the New York area, is highly preferred,” the firm adds.

Why the role interests us
The open role for a transit and infrastructure-focused role at Dattner offers us the opportunity to take a look back at recent major developments in the sector reported by Archinect. In our previous interview with Dattner Architects as part of our ‘How To Get A Job At’ series, the firm noted that transit and infrastructure were among their fastest-growing sectors, with our piece also including imagery of the firm’s Number 7 Subway Line extension project in New York City.
Elsewhere, Archinect reported last month on LA-based architecture writer Alissa Walker’s appearance on Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney to talk about public transit. Earlier this year, we also reported on a new interactive mapping platform of transit and infrastructure by a group of Canadian researchers, as well as research from the Italian University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, which found that good bus terminal design improves public transit participation.
Notable transit projects to recently appear in our editorial include Norman Foster’s collaboration with Porsche on a future mobility hub at the Venice Biennale, as well as Foster’s revised design for the Midtown Bus Terminal in New York City. Elsewhere, SOM recently unveiled new bus shelter designs for a more equitable future in Los Angeles while it was also announced that California’s first EV-charging roadway will be built UCLA for the 2028 Olympic Games.
